Why I Love Fall

Fall into Pronouns!

SpringSummerWinter, and Fall are four seasons that we all experience in New York throughout the year. Out of all four seasons, I would have to say that fall is my favorite. You might ask, "why do you love fall so much?" Well, I have many reasons for loving the fall that I am willing to share with you.

Weather

The weather during the fall is perfect. It is not too hot, or too cold. I enjoy taking walks on the boardwalk with my friends during this time of the year for this very reason. We don't need to wear heavy jackets because the temperature is great for a light sweater.

Holidays

During the fall, holidays include Halloween and Thanksgiving.
For Halloween, my friends and I go and buy pumpkins to carve together. We all pick a design, put our ideas onto a piece of paper, and then put the pieces of paper into a basket. Next, we pass the basket around and everyone picks a piece of paper with a different idea. This is always fun because we carve different designs each year.
For Thanksgiving, I spent time with my family. We get together with my cousins and grandparents and have a nice meal, which typically includes turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, and so much more. My grandpa cooks the turkey, which he is always very proud of. My grandma enjoys watching everyone try her homemade pies. She likes baking different flavors for each holiday. Thanksgiving pies usually include pecan and pumpkin.

* In the paragraphs above, I explained my reasons for loving the Fall. Within those paragraphs, I bolded all of the pronouns that I used.

Grammar Point

Pronouns are used in our day to day sentences. A pronoun is a word that is used to substitute for a noun. For example, "My friends enjoy walking on the boardwalk." "They enjoy walking on the boardwalk because of the nice weather." The word "they" is a pronoun that is used as a substitute for "friends."
Although pronouns take the place of other nouns, there are different types of pronouns.

Personal pronouns (subject pronouns) are pronouns that take the place of a noun as the subject of a sentence. It is important to remember that the subject of a sentence is the noun that performs the action of the verb!
Example: "Jessica kicked the ball." "Jessica" would be substituted for "she," making the new sentence, "she kicked the ball."

Object pronouns are pronouns that take the place of objects.
Example: "Jessica kicked the ball" would become, "Jessica kicked it." "Ball" would be substituted for "it."

Possessive pronouns show possession or ownership.
Example: "Jessica's soccer ball is pink." If I were to ask, "who's soccer ball is pink?" You may respond by saying, "hers is pink."

  1. Very nice entry about fall with an excellent grammar point and exercises. You also need an exercise for the vocabulary words.

In #1 in the object pronoun exercise, "it" is a subject pronoun.
